North Pole In the Making...
more, soon to come...

2016 08 02b BouwAfter I had imagined and visualized how I could convert an R1 into a bike that can reach the North Pole, I asked via my Facebook page...

Who can help?
For my next big adventure – a ride to the North Pole – I am looking for a donor R1. Who knows or has a red/white 2001 model for me, the same as in the picture? It needs to be in good nick and preferably not too expensive.

Within a month my dream started to become reality thanks to the great help of the Belgian motorcycle shop Motorhuis Felix & Jos.

At the same time, engineer Daan van Os converted my vision into technical drawings.

Visualizing aRctic1 is one thing. Before I start building, I would like to get a better idea of what it will look like.

Once that was done, I built a mobile frame for the first build phase.

Although I wanted to keep the R1 look as much as possible, large parts of the bike were completely changed. That's why I first stripped the donor R1 down to just the frame and engine. From that moment on, aRctic1 started to grow.

To give you a good idea of how the construction of each part developed, I have created separate items. So far, we only have “Centre Frame”. More will follow later.
Sometimes I started building a part in wood. When I was satisfied, I made it out of steel and later out of aluminium. Sometimes a part didn't work out and I had to start from scratch. And sometimes I modified the part. Each time the item ends with how that aRctic1 part looks now. But it is far from certain that it won't be changed in the future.
This is the result so far.

Unfortunately, I had to put the project on ice. Lack of time and finances are the main reasons. There is still a lot to do and if I could work on it fulltime for half a year or so, it should be ready for real testing. Now finding a real big sponsor would be welcome. If someone can get me one, bring it on!

Sponsors and North Pole Support friends from all over the world have made it possible for us to be where we are.
Thank you very much!
