North Pole In the Making... Centre Frame

Because aRctic1 has a much larger and wider rear tire than an original R1, the front and rear sprockets are not aligned. The solution is to use a primary and a secondary drive. The two sprockets in the middle rotate on an axle. To be able to place these, I built a frame that is mounted between the original R1 frame and the custom swingarm. I name it Centre Frame.

Using a technical drawing, I made a temporary plate from MDF.
The tent pole indicates where my foot rests in this test phase when I sit on the bike.
The PVC pipe is placed where the engine power is transferred from the primary to the secondary chain.

More MDF parts are being manufactured to test whether we are on the right path.

The drawing for the centre frame of aRctic1 is nearing completion.
Together with the animated image it gives an idea of how it will look.

The laser cut steel plates.
Temporarily held together by cable ties they form the centre frame.

Before welding starts, I first test whether everything is to my satisfaction.

The centre frame was professionally welded together by Paul van de Greef.

The swingarm mounts are welded to it. The swingarm pivots in them and the axle, on which the two – connected – sprockets of the primary and secondary chain rotate, is also placed in there.

aRctic1 is standing by itself again.

The result in the current phase. To save weight, my plan is to eventually make the centre frame from aluminium.
